FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (August 13, 2014, New Haven, CT)

This public statement from Dr. Boise Kimber is in response to the recent shooting in Ferguson, MO.

I am deeply saddened by the events that took place in Ferguson, Missouri on Saturday, August 9, 2014 involving 18-year-old Michael Brown. At first glance it resembles another case of police injustice involving another innocent victim. It is alarming that our young black men are dying in the streets at the hands of over-zealous police officers. In the last two months we have witnessed wrongful and untimely deaths of young black men in New York and Missouri.

It is my hope and prayer that our churches, conventions, elected officials, and other concerned individuals will seek to work together to heal our nation, which continues to demonstrate an imbalance when it comes to social justice. We also must work to ensure our young people have opportunities to live to their full potential.

Certainly, we lift up in prayers the parents and family of Mr. Brown and for all youth and young people.
